TikTok is not allowing me to follow anyone. In this article, you’ll learn how to fix can’t follow on TikTok.

Aside from watching videos for fun, TikTok is also a platform where you get to stay updated with your loved ones, favourite celebrities, creators, or influencers.

But you can’t stay updated with your favourite celebrities if you can’t follow them. It’s frustrating when you want to follow someone and TikTok says you can’t follow.

You may be wondering why you’re experiencing the error. Well, there are some reasons behind this.

In this article, you will learn the reasons behind this issue and how to fix can’t follow on TikTok.

Why Is TikTok Not Allowing Me To Follow Anyone?

Below are the reasons why you are not able to follow anyone on TikTok.

  • You’ve reached the TikTok Daily Follow Limit
  • You have been shadowbanned
  • You’ve reached TikTok’s follow Limit
  • TikTok sees your account as a bot
  • Private Account
  • Technical Issues or the TikTok server is down
  • You’ve been blocked

Reached The TikTok Daily Follow Limit

Many people may not be aware of the TikTok limit rules. You can’t follow someone on TikTok because you have reached the daily follow limit on TikTok which is 200.

On TikTok, you’re only allowed to follow 200 accounts daily.

Also, you can’t as well exceed the hour follow limit which is 10 accounts per hour. And you are allowed to perform another follow action after 15 minutes.

So, you won’t be able to follow another account once you’ve reached the hour and daily limit on TikTok.

You’ve Been Shadowbanned

Another reason why you can’t follow on TikTok is because TikTok shadowbanned your account for following many accounts too fast.

If you see “You’re following too fast” appear on your profile dashboard, this means that TikTok has banned your account for 24 hours.

Also, if you exceed the daily follow limit on TikTok, TikTok will shadowban your account. You cannot follow any new accounts until the ban ends after 24 hours

You’ve Reached TikTok’s Follow Limit

You can’t follow on TikTok because you have reached the overall follow on TikTok. According to some sources, you can only follow 10,000 accounts on TikTok.

So once you reach the 10k limit, you need to unfollow some accounts before you can follow new accounts.

TikTok Sees Your Account As A Bot

TikTok will see your account as a bot if you’re liking too many videos and commenting too much in a short time.

Once these activities happen in a very short time, your account will be flagged.

Private Account

You can’t follow on TikTok because the account is private. People make their accounts private for privacy reasons. Before you can follow a private account, you need to send a follow request first.

The owner of the account will need to approve your follow-up request before you can follow them.

Technical Issues or TikTok Server Is Down

You may experience can’t follow on TikTok because of some technical issues or bugs with the app.

Also, the TikTok server being down can prevent you from following someone on the app. You need to wait for TikTok to sort the issue on their end before you can start following other accounts.

You’ve Been Blocked

This is not a TikTok issue but just that the person you’re trying to follow has some personal vendetta against you.

If someone blocks you on TikTok, you won’t be able to follow the account unless they unblock you or you use an alternate account to follow the account.

How To Fix “Can’t Follow On TikTok”

If you fall into any of the reasons mentioned above, here are the fixes you should try to help you fix “can’t follow on TikTok”.

Wait For The Limit To Be Lifted

If you have hit the “follow limit on TikTok”, you have to wait for some time before following new accounts.

Yes, the only way to fix this issue is to wait if you have reached TikTok hourly and daily limits.

However, if you exceeded these limits and your account has been shadowbanned, then, you have to wait for 24 hours before you can start following new accounts.

Update The TikTok App

Older versions of TikTok tend to experience some malfunctions and technical issues. So, if you experience some malfunctions within the app, updating it would fix “can’t follow on TikTok”.

You can update the app to its latest version on the Play Store or App Store. Open any of the apps, then search for TikTok and tap the Update button to download the latest version.

Clear TikTok Cache

If your cache files are corrupted, this can disrupt the functionality of the app. Also, clearing the cache will remove all redundant files that TikTok is not using.

Clear cache on TikTok

  • Launch the TikTok app and log in to your account.
  • Tap on the Profile Avatar icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Then, tap More Options, the hamburger icon at the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap on Settings and Privacy
  • Scroll down, under “cache and cellular”, and tap Free Up Space
  • Tap on Clear to remove the cache files stored on the app.

Offload TikTok on iPhone:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Select General, then Select iPhone Storage
  • Scroll down and look for the TikTok app, then tap on it to open.
  • Click Offload app confirm and proceed.

Offloading TikTok on your iPhone won’t delete the app data. However, it will remove the app from your iPhone and delete the temporary files that may be causing this issue.

Clear cache on Android:

  • Open the Settings app on your phone
  • Scroll down and tap on Apps
  • Tap Manage apps
  • Scroll down and look for the TikTok app. Then tap on it.
  • Select Storage to view app data.
  • Tap on Clear Data and then select Settings Clear Cache.
  • Confirm you want to clear the cache, then select OK.

Clearing the cache is one of the quickest ways to resolve abnormalities within the TikTok app.

Check If You Have Been Blocked

If the issue persists, check if the person has blocked you. Search for the person’s username. If the search results do not show their name, they might have blocked you.

However, you can use an alternate account to search for the person’s profile and if the username appears on the search result, then the person blocked you.

Wait For The Person To Approve Your Follow Request

You can’t do much here if the account is private. However you can message the person if you have their contact to approve the follow request. But if you don’t have the person contact, all you can do is wait.

Conclusion

Not being able to follow someone on TikTok can be frustrating if TikTok limits your account. You must wait for the limit to end before you can follow new accounts again.

Also, you can check other fixes and follow the instructions in this article to help resolve the issue for you.
